    Excellent privacy oriented emails

    Date: May 15 2023

Summary: ProtonMail is a great privacy orientated email provider, the pricing can leave a bit to be desired depending on your use-case but otherwise I would strongly recommend it.

    Positive: - Easy to use,
    - Open source,
    - Possible to use with a custom domain (requires a premium subscription),
    - Privacy orientated (something truly rare these days!)

Negative: - Could allow for more domains in the premium non-business plans
    - The IOS app is somewhat bug-prone and could use more polish and if possible integrate more with the system.
    - No MacOS app

    Got away from gmail!

    Date: Feb 28 2021

Summary: I really like using Proton mail. The best part is that I am no longer tied to Google mail in any way and have removed all four of the accounts that I had there. Proton mail has given me the security of knowing that I have a level of privacy.

Positive: Can encrypt if you want, or not. All settings are available and it is easy to set up everything. Have a free version that I am currently using and it is not restricted in any way. Allows for two-factor authorization.

Negative: Just couldn't find any cons as of yet. Have used the program for about 3 months.

    Feel Safe

    Date: Oct 17 2020

Summary: Overall the free version is great unless you are going to be sending a ton of emails. It works for me and I feel safe using it.

Positive: I love that my emails are end to end encrypted. I found out that Gmail reads my emails and I quickly signed up for the free version.

Negative: People look at me weird when I give them my email address now.

The 1st provider you hear when you want a privacy-respecting e-mail

    Date: Mar 02 2022

Summary: Overall, ProtonMail is a solid choice for a privacy-respecting e-mail provider, there are some issues, like services not recognizing your ProtonMail address, but it's only minor.

Positive: The web client is great for all my needs, and ProtonMail is a privacy-respecting e-mail provider, based on Switzerland.

Negative: No IMAP support on the free plan, and you also need to use an app for that to happen.
Low storage - only 500 mb.
My grandparents have used ProtonMail for their e-mails (I created so they can use some government services), and some of those services would not recognize.

    Great privacy-centric emails

    Date: Aug 15 2021

Summary: This is one of the best privacy centric email services around. If more of them nailed the user interface like this one does, Gmail should be scared.

Positive: The # draw is that this is a secure, privacy-focused email alternative. It also has a very sleek interface.

Negative: Understandably, it does not offer a large amount of storage, only 500MB, so no hoarding like you would with gmail.

    More private mail

    Date: Nov 19 2020

Summary: I keep going back and forth between this and Tutanota. For the time being, I prefer Tutanota though I think ProtonMail is the more polished of the two. Both are good services for encrypted mail. I'd give them both and try and see which one you prefer.

Positive: ProtonMail offers encrypted emails, so it's a good option for those looking for a more private, secure email service compared to the bigger ones out there like Gmail and Outlook. It's got fairly priced options, and the free version isn't too bad either.

Negative: Much like Tutanota, however, you can't use this as your only email account because a lot of services won't recognize it as a "valid" email service even though it very obviously is.
